Flowers for the Bridal Party

Here, there's a floral idea to suite every member of your entourage. Your maid of honor's nosegay should be small -- like this clutch of sweet peas, lily of the valley, ranunculus, dusty miller, and brunia -- because during the vows, she'll hold yours, too. As for your groom, "make his boutonniere out of your bouquet's most unexpected element, like this black privet fruit," says Martha Stewart Weddings style director Kate Berry. When decking out Dad, simplicity is key: A dusty miller leaf anchors one freesia spray. Your flower girl deserves a crown as petite and delicate as she is. A wreath of arabicum flowers, lily of the valley, and branchy santolina, dolled up by tiny crabapples, is just the ticket. For the mother of the bride? Out with the old-fashioned corsage, and in with a youthful posy of stephanotis, 'Henry Eilers' black-eyed susan, lily of the valley, and a garden rose

Monogrammed Ribbon for Your Bouquet

A perfumed burst of about 80 sweet peas, an old-fashioned favorite for early-summer brides, is dotted by something blue, tweedia, and bound by a ribbon embroidered with the bride and groom's initial and wedding date. Read more at Marthastewartweddings.com: 15 Years of Great Wedding Ideas

Unexpected Centerpieces

Unexpected Centerpieces, Tree
Tree centerpieces with pomanders
Who needs a few puny offshoots when you can decorate your reception table with an entire tree? For a modern look, spray-paint the branches a monochromatic hue and adorn with graphic pomanders in a bright color.
Unexpected Centerpieces, Fruit

Nothing says summer or fall quite like a crate of oranges or a wooden bucket of apples. Why not put the flavors of the season at the center of your wedding reception decor?

One part vintage charm, one part charismatic personalization, building centerpieces around your hobbies or interests is a great way to put a unique touch on your wedding reception decor.

Lately succulents have been making a splash on the wedding scene, but for couples who really want their centerpieces to be unexpected, we suggest a tougher alternative.

Vases are nice, mason jars are rustic, candelabrum are dramatic, but for a truly unexpected centerpiece, you need to broaden your understanding of what constitutes a flower holder
Unexpected Centerpieces, Dessert
Unexpected dessert centerpieces

You've probably seen weddings where the couple opts for small cakes on each table in lieu of sheet cakes or a giant wedding cake. In a similar vein, get creative with your dessert centerpieces by opting for colorful macaroons, truffles, or even marshmallow snowballs.

Ornaments aren't only for the Christmas tree anymore. By selecting vivid jewel tones in glitzy textures, these colorful orbs can add an unexpected twist to your reception centerpieces.

Reception Flowers

If you’re not the matchy-matchy type, choose eclectic arrangements of mismatched centerpieces all with blooms and colors within the same family. It will give a relaxed, organic look to your reception tables.

Share the Flower Love

When having a party/event consider sharing your love of flowers with your guests; chances are they love flowers too!

Turn a large arrangement - like these 24 roses - into smaller bouquets for your guests to take. If done with the right anount of flowers you can have great arrangements and double them as favors.

Bundle mini bouquests and bring them together for a large and quite beautiful centerpiece. {Bundle the minis with wire and you can wrap with ribbon for a finished look.} I love the look of the same flower in masses!

Thanks to One Charming Party for the idea and the beautiful image of these roses - who wouldn't love to look at these?!

Happy Planning!

Reception Inspiration

Ask to see photos of previous events—not just weddings—that have taken place at your reception site. You just might pick up a few great styling ideas in the process.
This centerpiece was from my sister's wedding (isn't it beautiful!?). You may not want to do use this exact centerpiece, but like elements of it...the vase, the look of the hydrangea with the branches (the branches had crystal on them) or the delicate pearls holding the table number inside. Pull what you like and make it your own!
{This centerpiece was done by Garden Party Sisters in South Jersey. Be sure to check them out because they do great work and you will get quality flowers and great work!}

Floral Tip

Give your florist a swatch of a bridesmaid’s dress. If you ask for blue flowers for the bouquets, and the florist thinks periwinkle when you’re envisioning cornflower, you may be disappointed. Also, relieve yourself of the stress of totally matching everything to the exact color....first of all, it's impossible for perfect matches and in pictures that you won't even notice. Obvious differences are one thing, but exact matches can make you too stressed unnecessarily! Happy Planning!

Flower Power on a Budget!

Cost-effective flower fillers like star-of-Bethlehem and sweet william can be combined with more exotic varieties to stretch a budget. {I know I've said this before, but it's worth saying again....don't knock the carnation out of the line-up. There is a large variety and they can be blown out, they look quite chic in rich colors and done well! I will post some great carnation centerpieces in July from my best friend's wedding we're doing. In the mean time...Happy Planning!)
